Mini Design Market, Stones Corner

My market stall at Mini Design Market, Stones Corner. It was a really good market with excellent artists and craftspeople and everything was locally made and high quality. now I'm looking forward to doing it again in October. I had my paintings, pottery and fabric arts on show.

Mandala, coloured pens on black background

Mandala, coloured pens on black background. Colours by Jenny Jump, 2014

Here's another Mandala I did while I was in hospital. This one was completely designed and I just coloured it in, but it was relaxing and calming. I never liked colouring-in when growing up because it meant trying to stay in the lines, and colouring in other people's work; but after this exercise, I can see that sometimes colouring-in and staying between the lines can be therapeutic.

Dinosaur Family painting for my brother

"Dinosaur Family"
by Jenny Jump, 2014
acrylic on canvas
for Bert Heathwood
This painting is made for and dedicated to my brother and his family. My reference images came from an old 1970s Dinosaur book and I'm sure opinions on how our dinosaurs really looked has changed many times since then. Of course the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryxis a more recent discovery and this little little feathered Dinosaur is for my nephew Kaiden who refers to all birds as dinosaurs. I added a couple of dino eggs and fossils in the corner and some dinosaur era plants, ferns, but in this case "Firns" for Ellie.
I can't help but see a resemblance between the funny Pteranodon and my brother. Of that makes Kaiden the Archaeopteryx, Ellie is the motherly Apatosaurus and Izzy is the friendly Stegosaurus.

Poochie Dreaming

A painting for my son using his favourite colours and images. I also added my sausage dog and a Maneki Neko holding an emblem with a ladder to helped depressed people climb out of their holes of despair.
"Poochie Dreaming" by Jenny Jump
Acrylics and nail polish on canvas, July 2014
20cm X 25cm

"Poochie dreaming" was painted during a recent Manic episode while I was a patient in Psychiatric Hospital. The creature with a third eye shows what it looks like inside my mind when I'm feeling in a heightened mood. The good luck cat in the corner is holding a shield with a picture of a ladder, symbolises the ladder I needed to help me climb out of the depths of despair, and hopefully my friends can also use the ladder to help themselves climb out of the pit of depression.

3 eyed maneki neko monster

Three-eyed Maneki Neko Monster
Jenny Jump, 2014
acrylic on canvas, 20cm X 25cm
art is a form of magic
"Three eyed Maneki Neko" (3-eyed good luck cat)
Maneki Neko (good luck cats) often feature in my work and I obsessively collect good luck cats, they're all over my house.
The difference with this cat is the third eye takes you inside my mind and instead of a friendly welcoming cat, this one is a monster with sharp teeth, representing the monsters from my Nightmarish fantasies.

Painting BB the dog, in progress

One of my good friend's elderly dog BB, recently passed away, so I'm making a portrait of BB on a Stoneware dinner plate as a memorial of BB for my friend. I was painting today and I'm happy with the progress so far.
